I have several wiring questions about my wiring system. John Deere 318 (M00318X222437) w/ Onan (Model Spec No. B43G - GA018/4060B, Serial No H823622911). Plowing snow for a couple hours in Jan. Running great and working hard, then it just died sounding like it ran out of gas. Gave it a spray of starter fluid (the kind with lube in it). Would start to start up, but not quite & then die.Cleaned off the pickup on the flywheel, ran a new lead from trigger unit to coil, and tractor fired right up. Shut it off, let sit a minute, fired right back up. Let itnsit 10 minutes and now no spark again. It is not the ignition switch as I have the coil wired directly to the trigger unit for testing.I'm pretty sure the red wire is always hot, so you do not need to have the key on. To jump it, you need to get 12V to wherever the start signal wire attaches to the solenoid. It's purple on my tractor, but I am not sure about the 318. This is usually very easily done with a screw driver between the red wire and the start signal wire. ….
