The Smilodon did have fairly long heel bones, which suggests it was probably capable of jumping. Smilodon was a hypercarnivore and most likely an apex predator in its ecosystem. It primarily hunted large herbivores such as mammoths, bison, horses, and other megaherbivores that were around during the Pleistocene Epoch.
