The Arc’s Self-Determination Scale. The Arc’s Self-Determination Scale (SDS, Wehmeyer & Kelchner, 1995) is a 72-item self-report measure based on the research by Wehmeyer and colleagues. A total of 148 points are available on the scale, with higher scores indicating higher levels of self-determination.As such, participants included individuals receiving residential supports to live in the community and individuals receiving services in the family home or their own home. Inclusion criteria was completion of the NCI Adult Consumer Survey and Short Form of The Arc’s Self-Determination Scale: Adult Version (Shogren et al. 2015b).Scoring The Arc's Self-Determination Scale involves the determination of raw scores for all domain and subdomain areas, calculation of a total score and interpretation of these raw scores based on conversion tables. The back page of each protocol contains a scoring sheet onto which raw and converted scores can be copied.
