I have a 77 fj40 that has had the shackle reversal with regular hd leaf springs hangars. I am going to replace all the bushings from rubber to poly. Would anti inversion shackles ride better /wheel better than regular shackles? So I'm guessing the issue is more with the width if some are rubbing on 31". Front shackle angle is good. Front springs appear to be aftermarket, or at least have aftermarket bands. Rear shackle angle is terrible, and axle is too far forward. Rear springs look like stock springs, but ride height seems taller than stock. A set of 2.5" springs would be adequate for 33's and mild off road.The FSM says to torque the knuckle bearing caps to 43-54 ft lbs for bearing preload. The preload is checked with a fish scale and should read not more than 5 lbs. When I toque the bearing caps to 43 lbs the fish scale says ~8.5 lbs. I tried to reduce the torque to 38 lbs on the bearing caps but I am still reading about 8 lbs on the fish scale.
